What’s your “God” question?

It is NORMAL to have questions.  It is OK to ask questions.  And when it comes to questions, some of the biggest ones we have in life are about God…but sometimes we are afraid to ask them.  At least, out loud.

The truth is, sometimes the church is afraid to ask them.

But the church, if anywhere, should be a place for asking questions and seeking answers – together.  Since I’m a pastor at a church, I figure we ought to start doing something about that.  So click on the title to this post, and then ask your biggest, boldest “God” question in the “Leave a Reply” section that will show up below.  You can even do it anonymously if you like.  We will tackle the TOP 5 “God” Questions people have in a Connection Church series starting March 8, called My Huge Question.  We’ll wrestle with them together.

We don’t have all the answers…but it should be okay to ask the questions and search for the answers together.  So let us hear from you!

i don’t understand where God is when so many people around me are suffering so much? how can God just sit by and allow people to be in pain?

So where do cavemen and the dinosaurs play into all of this? :)

What does the Bible say about what happens when we die?

What does God think of those who believe in a “God” but don’t necessarily believe in Jesus? Will they enter into Heaven after they die?

Do people have to proclaim Jesus as their savior before they die in order to get to Heaven or is there some sort of “last chance” once they die?

Do People who are genuinely good during their life, but don’t believe in Jesus, go to Hell in death or do they just die & not go to Heaven?

Is there really a Satan trying to keep us from God?

Do animals go to Heaven (pets)?

Once we die, do our spirits live on and rejoin other loved ones who have passed?

When bad things happen to people is it a result of God’s will or a result of humans being given free will?

What does the Bible say about spirit’s living among us…some may call them ghosts?

Does God really view all sin as the same…. murderers will be judged the same as one who gossips or lies or cheats?

God loves all His children and all sin is the same, so why do some Christians & churches judge more harshly or refuse those that are gay versus someone who has been divorced or committed adultery or any other sin etc…… especially if sin is a choice.

Why are good Christians losing their jobs?

Do you think all the stories from the Bible are true? Stories like Jonah (and the whale) confuse me.

I’ve always been a more “God” kind of person than a “Jesus” person. I want to believe in Jesus, but it all sounds kind of weird and unreal to me. Is faith still okay if you just “believe” because you WANT to believe rather than actually believe?

  8. Steve Says:

It seems to me that God changed the rules along the way which caused lots of confusion. I have to believe that there were people prior to Jesus that made it to heaven. These people were not perfect and I’m guessing they didn’t make enough sacrifices to cover all of their sin, so how did they get to heaven? Or did they? So eventually Jesus is sent to die for our sins, but this change in the rules left lots of people thinking they can get to heaven without him. Why would God do this?

It seems to me that Christianity comes down to whether Jesus rose from the dead or not. What is the evidence that he did? Why do you believe that he did? What are the arguments/evidence in opposition?

I also wonder about People who lived before Jesus. Did they go to Heaven – they obviously sinned but did not have Jesus to wash those sins. Do people go to heaven/hell right away after they die or is there a middle ground till the End of Times?

Do all kids who die go to heaven? At what point must a person make the decision that he/she wants to be saved and ask jesus into their hearts – before they can go to heaven —meaning if an 8 year old dies, do they go to Heaven or must they have been “saved.”

Are all non christians going to Hell? What about Mormons? What about Jews – are we to believe that they were God’s chosen people until Jesus, and now none of them will go to heaven and they will all go to hell?

Does God really listen to me when I talk to him in my head (pray) or am I just talking to myself?

Wow, these are some awesome questions…as I read through them I just keep saying, “hey I’ve thought that before also”. So here’s another, what happened to life expectancy? Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. Noah a measly 950 years. Even Seth lived 912. We can’t blame it all on preservatives and processed foods.

Why do kids get sick? Why are some people born into poverty and diease (think third world countries) while others of us are born into families that have the means to provide for them?

  12. Wendy Says:

Can you explain the book of Revelations where it talks about Gods coming. What is the purpose fo this “second coming” and will all those that don’t believe at that time be summoned to hell for the rest of their eternity?

Do you believe, like in the book Dantes Inferno, there are varying degrees or levels in hell depending on how severe your sins were. Conversly I wonder if there are varying degrees in heaven depending on how great your deeds were prior to death!

Do you believe that being Gay is a choice? If it is not a choice how can you rationalize a God that says it is a sin but then makes you that way? What do you think about these “reeducation” camps where Christians try to change gay people into being straight? Why should we not allow Gay people the same rights as heterosexuals meaning – allowing them to marry, allowing them to have the same health care benefits as heteros, etc…? Are we practicing what we preach when “Christians” seem to be more hateful and judgmental than non-christians.

  14. A Says:

Do you believe in Predestination? That some people will not even have the chance to go to Heaven? and… Where are the cavemen in the bible? did they live 900 years?

  15. Anonymous Says:

If God is in control of everything, why does he allow so many horrible things to happen to good people? I know he doesn’t cause it to happen, but he doesn’t intervene to stop it. Children with disabilities, cancer, plane crashes, etc.? I know people always say there is a reason and/or something good will come from it, but I can’t always accept that or find that to be true.

  16. Anon Says:

Why is everything also so hard anymore? It feels like a pille-on: Making mortgage payments, dealing with cheerless people, health issues, bills, bills, bills, traffic idiocies., no hope. Most people I talk to seem to feel it’s harder than ever nowadays, possibly stemming from the crappy economic times we’re in.

  17. Allen S. Says:

    Why won’t God heal amputees?

  18. Sara Says:

Why won’t my family accept God into their lives as I have done?
